'FRIDAY FIGHT CLUB' By popular demand, we will be running another Verve 'Friday Fight Club' day camp this summer with dates being as follows - FRIDAY 30th JULY 2010 FRIDAY 6th AUGUST 2010 FRIDAY 13th AUGUST 2010 FRIDAY 20th AUGUST 2010 FRIDAY 27th AUGUST 2010 The day camp will run between 10.00am and 3.00pm at Hagley Community Centre, Hagley, DY9 0NW and will involve various martial arts related elements including specialist martial arts training including self-defence, patterns, sparring, foam nunchaku, bo staff & bokken. We also have martial arts and crafts, big screen video game comps, as well as all the crazy sponge ball and batton games / drills from our day to day TKD classes. NEW VERVE SQUAD TRAINING SESSIONS from Sunday 1st August 2010 Our new Verve Martial Arts squad sessions start from the beginning of August with the format being as follows - 10.00 - 11.00 - Black Belt Patterns 11.00 - 12.00 - Coloured Belt Patterns 12.00 - 13.00 - Sparring Fitness 13.00 - 14.00 - Technical Sparring All sessions will be hosted at Physique Fitness Gym, Droitwich, WR9 9RB Our new session dates are as follows - Sunday 1st August Sunday 5th September Sunday 3rd October Sunday 7th November Sunday 5th December The cost is £4.00 per session per person but please note that after the cost of hiring the room all proceeds go into a pot to help fund those who want to travel to Germany & the U.S.A. next year!

I.T.S. BRITISH TAEKWONDO CHAMPIONSHIPS - 15th & 16th May 2010 Thank you to all those who supported our fantastic weekend of International martial arts. Firstly, our I.T.S. 'World of Martial Arts Seminar' on the Saturday with over 160 participants and then our championships on the Sunday where we sold over 1000 tickets - it was an extra special weekend!!! Verve students excelled at the British Championships taking 10 gold, 11 silver and 15 bronze, our Verve clubs now boast the following I.T.S. British Champions - Sophie Booton - Patterns Reece Hughes - Patterns & Sparring Brandon Louth - Sparring Alice Adams - Creative Forms Jenny Louth - Sparring Sue Rhodes - Sparring Liz Swift - Sparring Kieran Turrall - Sparring Carl Trevitt - Grand Champion In addition, several of our Verve students were selected for England international duties and picked up medals in their respective team categories. This included 1st place for the ladies sparring team - Vicky Adams, Sue Rhodes, Liz Swift & Elaine Grazier as well as 1st place for the boys sparring team - Scott Robb, Joseph Andrews & Joshua Moseley ... very well done all!!! NEW FOR 2010 … … I.T.S. // VERVE 1-2-1 ASSESSMENT PROGRAMME – MARCH 2010 We have recently launched a new system of belt grading - the ‘1-2-1 Assessment’ programme. It means that Mr. Swift is now offering to examine coloured belt students, up to and including blue belts, on a 1 to 1 or a 2 to 1 basis. Please note that the normal group grading process is an important process for leadership and black belt development, hence why the '1-2-1 Assessment' programme is limited at blue belt.

WEAPONS TRAINING - Learning the Bo Staff Well done to all those who took part in the Bo Staff training Seminar in Bromsgrove during October. The seminar involved the teaching of strikes, spins and combinations that resulted in a creative demonstration form that will surely debut at the Verve UK Open event next month!!! I.T.S. ENGLAND TEAM SELECTIONS - OCTOBER 2009 As I am sure you are all aware - the I.T.S. England Team Selections start this month!!! The training dates are specified on the right and session times are as follows - I.T.S. ENGLAND Squad Session @ Physique Fitness Gym, Droitwich, WR9 9RB. 12.00 - 1.00pm - SPARRING Age 14yrs and under. 1.00 - 2.00pm - PATTERNS All ages and abilities. 2.00 - 4.00pm - SPARRING Age 15yrs and Over. UPDATE ON THOMAS SWIFT'S TRAINING - September 2009 Many students and parents have requested an update on young Thomas Swift's progress - I can tell you he is training really hard though I am some what disappointed that it's taking a little time to master pad drill number 5's '360 jump turning kick' !!! As you can see from the photo he has recently moved into weapons training, lets hope ma'am doesn't find out that we use her pot plants to practice focus, strikes and techniques and also her teddies as sparring partners! 2009 has seen Mr Swift host a series of 'Explosive Kicking' seminars and there is still time to book you place on one! The seminar content includes the techniques and methods of training that enable the execution of explosive martial arts jump and spin kicking. Learn the theory behind polymetrics along with speed, strength and power training. In addition, be coached through the 360 and 540 spin kicks, triple split kick and other multiple jump kick combinations! DEMONSTRATIONS - Hagley Summer Fete 2009
The class based demo saw freestyle skills in the lines and on pads, self-defence skills as well as jump kicking and a syncronised patterns demo by Emily Siviter, Lauren Rhodes and Jasmine Beardsmore. Individual demos saw Lauren Rhodes, Jasmine Beardsmore, Laura Trigg and Elaine Grazier perform kicking board breaks. Closely followed by Carl Trevitt, Simon Trigg, Lee Grazier and Matt Cartwright demonstrating breaking techniques with their hands. Finally, Mr Swift performed a jump kick board break and a 360 jump turning kick break which nearly 'took-out' an on looking spectator!!! In closure, young Tommy Booton of Kidderminster Taekwondo took the class counting (in Korean) through their punch and ki-ha drill, well done to all who took part and supported the day! Our next demonstration is scheduled for 19th September in Blakedown, please see your instructor to confirm your attendance!

The grading involved elements including a written thesis paper and practical assessment which in turn included traditional patterns, set sparring and linework, freestyle skills and sparring, pad and bag work, self-defence with knife defences and ground pins, and power testing in the way of board breaking. There were some exceptional performances proving that all the hard work, time, dedication and preparations were well worthy! A special mention must go to Vicky Adams who, through invitation, travelled to Leslie in Fife to grade infront of Mr Swift, Mrs Swift, Mr Fisher and Mr Paterson amongst the Scottish contingent - she successfully achieved her second degree black belt! Well done all, we look forward to seeing you in the next black belt class!

CONGRATULATIONS TO I.T.S. JUNIOR TEAM LEADERS The February 2009 I.T.S. Junior Team Leader course proved to be hugely successful with candidates from a number of I.T.S. clubs coming together and having to demostrate and develop key life skills of confidence, communication, team building, motivation and being a role model. 2008 again saw students from our Verve Martial Arts clubs exercise their charity fund raising skills this time in a newly branded event title - Sponsoered Kick-a-Thon. As the name suggests, students had to gather and perform as many kicks as they could in the allocated 1 1/2 hours session, all in attempt to raise money for the local County Air Ambulance services. Participating students managed a massive 161,005 kicks in the 1 1/2 hours and raised £1,807.61 - a massive well done to all those who took part! next '1-2-1 Assessment' programme dates have been set as follows -

will be aware that we now have a full time centre in Kidderminster
and that we offer 1 to 1 classes. If it is something that you'd like
to do be sure to book in ASAP as our current special offer has ment
that many of the time slots are being filled!
The
finale to a fanastic 2009 was our Xmas party and presentations evening,
and what a finale it was!!! With eating, drinking and dancing (and
exercise sets on the tables and chairs) it was a night to remember!

2009 saw our Verve Taekwondo team demonstrate their skills to the
people of Hagley and those in attendance at the Hagley summer fete.
Having demonstrated in previous years, expectations were high and
people were not disappointed!
